When the manager of the month announcements were made for December it was no surprise to us that our very own Simon Haughney was the panel’s choice for the Isthmian South Central Vita Risk Solutions: Manager Of The Month Award.
By the end of the month Hanworth Villa were sitting top of the form table having shown a real resurgence and consistency over the previous couple of months. In December the team were really ticking and showing some never-say-attitude, highlighted by the two goals in additional time to claim a victory at Ashford. This good run of results saw us flirting once again with the possibility of play-off places as we reduced the gap to fifth placed Marlow to a single point.
I caught up with Simon earlier, who offered these words in response to the announcement.
“First of all,” he said, “this award isn’t for the Manager, it’s for the management team, because without them it ain’t happening.
This good run of form comes as a result of all of us working together.”
He added, “These awards are a welcome recognition of the work that we put in (and how our ideas are implemented by the players on the pitch)… “
“But, if they were to do a ‘worst manager’ of the month then I’d have been on the shortlist a couple of times at the beginning of the season!”
