Villa battle hard in goalless draw vs Wimborne

A game in challenging conditions between two tough sides meant both teams come away from the Wyatt Homes Stadium with a point.
Matchday 5 of the Southern League Premier Division South saw Hanworth Villa travel down to Dorset to face Wimborne Town for the first time.
With the game on the bank holiday weekend. Manager Simon Haughney and his team would have to manage their players closely with the visit of Chertsey Town 2 days after.
Villa made a positive start to the game, putting the hosts under pressure with a couple early corners. The magpies deal with the corners and look to settle the game down after Villa’s quick start.
And settle down they did and almost take the lead. Harvey Wright flicked on a Wimborne free kick towards Will Fletcher, who heads towards the top right corner, forcing the save from Tyla Dickinson. Tyla could only palm the ball back towards the box where Tyler Edmondson headed over the rebound.
Gio McGregor was the first Villa man to test Kai Crampton in the Wimborne goal. He made space to have a shot from distance, but the effort was straight at Crampton who makes the save.
That was about all for the first half, both teams not allowing much through and ending the half goalless.
The second half started in a similar style to how the first half ended. Both sides making it difficult for each other to create, with only real half chances and not much else to shout about.
A quick counter from Wimborne created them the best chance of the half. Charlie Wooding broke away and slipped through Joe Smith. He tries to chip over Dickinson, but the Villa number 1 makes himself big and forces Smith into missing the target.
Next, it was Cam Sullivan to come close. However, his sliced volley from the edge of the area is wide.
Villa almost earned themselves a late penalty. Brandon Barzey slipped a perfect ball through to Michael Harding, but it was a well time challenge from a Wimborne defender to stop the dangerous looking attack.
Speaking on his view from the sideline Haughney said, “it was a lovely through ball by Brandon. I thought Michael got the touch before the defender, but it happened so quick and I’m on the other side.”
Speaking post-match, Haughney Said “Did we do enough to win the game? No, I don’t think we did. Did we play badly to lose it? No, speaking with their guy afterwards, a draw is a fair result.”
Speaking on the difficulty to attack. “I felt we were poor with that last pass. 10-15 yard passes I thought we weren’t clinical or as sharp then we have been. I don’t think we disjointed them enough today.”
Next up for Villa, it is a local Derby on the bank holiday Monday, 31st August, 3 pm kickoff vs Chertsey town at Rectory Meadow.
“I suppose that is our Derby now. we know it is going to be a tough game, it’s going to be marginal, and we’ll have to do our best to get the win.”
