Hampton overcome Hanworth in first pre-season fixture
Hanworth Villa’s first outing since earning promotion to step 3 starts with a visit from Hampton & Richmond in the Gary Craig Memorial Trophy.
Simon Haughney’s first half starting 11 came out fast as new man Louis Gates beats his man on the outside down the right and whips a dangerous ball in across the box, but there are no takers on the end of it.
Just before the first hydration break, Hampton are in through on goal, But Ben Mulley puts in a superb last-ditch tackle to prevent a shot on goal.
The deadlock was broken by Hampton on the 38th minute as a ball in from the left is flicked into the net to open the scoring.
Both sides made a whole host of changes at the interval and it was Hampton who come the closest following the break. A corner from the left is headed onto the crossbar before being cleared to safety.
5 minutes before time, Abdullah Selloum is brought down in the penalty box. Unfortunately, his penalty is saved as the keeper dives the right way to save.
Minutes later Hampton double their lead. The forward beats the offside trap to go 1-on-1 with the keeper and rounds him to slot into the empty net
Villa’s will take on St Albans City in our next pre-season fixture. Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday, 11th July
