Organised Villa make it third league win in a row
Hanworth Villa made it 3 wins on the bounce with an organised 2-0 victory over Southall in the Isthmian South-Central Division.
It was not an action-packed game at Rectory Meadow, but 2 first half finishes from Danylo Hubynets were enough for Villa to pick up the 3 points.
Manager Simon Haughney said: “very happy with the performance, very pleased with the results. We still got to back it up on Saturday with three points, but nine points in the last three games. Very happy.”
Haughney said on playing Southall. “I think you see today, that’s not a team that’s struggling. That’s a very good team. I’d say that’s the best team we’ve played this season. But, on our behalf, it was good to have got them out the way.”
There were 2 changes from the side that won comfortably 5-1 at Horndean the Saturday prior, and for the 3rd game running it's another change in between the sticks. In came Tyla Dickinson for his debut and Marco Haigh was back in from the start.
It was a rather slow start to the game with chances coming few and far between for both sides. The best chance early on did come the way of Villa. Josh Casey released a fierce drive towards goal, but the effort was past the near post.
Eventually, without many chances falling to either side in the first 30 minutes. Villa had 2 in quick succession. Danylo Hubynets put Villa ahead after Marco Correia broke down the right-hand side, before squaring the ball to Hubynets who calmly put the ball past keeper Sobte and Villa were Infront.
Just 3 minutes later, it was that man Hubynets again. This time, Sam Merson had time on the right to look up and find Hubynets. The ball from Merson is good enough for Hubynets to shoot first time and get his and Villa’s second of the evening.
Haughney on Hubynets. “He works so hard, he puts defenders under pressure, and he’s clinical, as shown today. He’s been fantastic.”
The two Hubynets goals ended a rather quiet half at Rectory Meadow. Southall wouldn't have been to upset with their first half, but it was Villa who took the lead into the second half.
It was more of the same in the second half. Neither side had many chances to threaten another goal. Hubynets had the best chance of the half early on when he rounded Sobte, unfortunately for him the angle was too tight and couldn't squeeze the ball in from the tight angle.
In the end, an organised 2-0 win for Villa. Soaked up pressure at times and clinical when needed to make it 3 wins in a row.
Next up for Villa, it’s Bognor Regis Town coming to Rectory Meadow on 27th September, 3PM Kick-off.
Haughney on playing Bognor “Massive club in the division and looking forward to it. They’ve got history so have other clubs in this league. It’s just another game for me.”
