In a game of little quality we came off second best against a Westfield team knocking on the playoff spaces. They had a plan to get in behind us from the start and the result could have been worse were it not from some great saves from Terry Buss and an unbelievable goal line clearance from George Wells.
Westfield started off quickly but we soon got into our stride and instinctive strike from Nicholas from distance announced our arrival in the game. The well-hit ball snap-shot sped past their keeper but bounced back off the post.
Ben Geraghty was replaced early on with a head injury. In the preceding minutes he’d crucially chased down an attack on goal, cleared from a corner and then gone on a marauding run down the left. It was a real loss to the momentum of the performance.
In the second half Westfield came out stronger and a spell of relentless attacking saw them get the only goal of the game.
There wasn’t much between us and them in footballing terms, both teams guilty of mistakes in the middle of the park. Aside from a George Wells blast over the bar and an exciting last ten minutes there wasn’t too much to cheer about. One of those days where the team just weren’t on it.
