Match report

ome draws are considered ‘two points lost’ but this was a game we perhaps didn’t deserved even the point we gained. We started poorly and never really got going in the first half. This seemed to spur on Binfield who had the best of possession and attacks with Dzimba, Fosu and Smith-Jone all carving out chances.

On 23’ Ethan Gold on the left swept a beautiful sweeping cross to the far post for Dzimba to head home.

Goal: Kickie Dzimba 23’  – Binfield 1 v 0 Hanworth Villa.

Minutes later Villa had the chance to equalise through a Merson freekick but Well’s header rose over the bar. Wells found himself in the thick of the action and was on the end of a lunge from Hilton, who’d over run the ball and was fortunate not to pick up a nasty injury. The ref didn’t see the incident the same way as the travelling Villa contingent and play was allowed to continue allowing Binfield another shot on goal – thankfully though this rose and went over.

Minutes later Binfield were through again after a weak back header. Once again Mark Smith saved us at the last.

It was a defensive mistake again that led to their second goal as Binfield broke down our left with key defenders still upfield and in the end it was a toe poke tackle from one of our defence that laid the ball into the path of Fosu who only had the keeper to beat.

Goal: Daniel Fosu ’44  – Binfield 2 v 0 Hanworth Villa.

Half time: 2-0

A terrible first half by Villa and as we understand the players got to hear just what Simon thought of their performance at the break.

After the break we didn’t come out all guns blazing but as the half went on we started to get the basics done better. Binfield kept pressing and coming close but Smith between the sticks was on good form so they couldn’t get through.

Villa’s first goal was a neat(ish) passing move that started with the keeper. Smith launched a ball deep into our opponent’s half which was nodded on by Macnab, which the defender headed straight back to him. He took it on his chest and laid it off to Merson who slid the ball out to Wells on the wing who sent over a teasing cross that came back out to Merson. Sam hit an awkward shot which the keeper parried right into the path of Randall who fired the ball into the net.

Goal: Dylan Randall 70’ – Binfield 2 v 1 Villa

With the game heading towards a victory to the hosts George Wells did what George Wells does. In stoppage time George took the ball on the wing and raced towards the goal and about 30 yards out left fly an absolute screamer to bring parity. Villa salvage a draw.

Goal: George Wells 90’ – Binfield 2 v 2 Villa

Full time: 2-2
